Spotting the future

Good reasons for green textiles

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic for the textile industry. New materials, manufacturing processes and production technologies are increasingly being developed to offer the market a green perspective.

Messe Frankfurt acts as an international driving force, offering a complete platform for the theme of Sustainability & Textiles – with trade fairs, trend forums, seminars and awards that recognise sustainable engagement. In addition, we publish a newsletter every three months that provides information about the latest market developments.

Texpertise Network Sustainability

Our engagement in detail

We promote the future of the green market in many segments of the textile industry, including fashion and manufacturing, yarn and fabrics, home and household textiles, technical textiles and non-wovens, textile processing and textile care. The focus is on the following themes: environmentally friendly production of materials, efficient use of raw materials and energy, safe disposal and avoidance of harmful chemicals, reduction of waste and socially responsible working conditions. Find out more about our activities:

Fashion fairs – two of our fairs are devoted exclusively to the theme of sustainability and textiles. At the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin and the Greenshowroom the latest developments, trends and products for a green industry are presented.

Conferences – "Planet Textiles" is devoted to the theme of sustainable sourcing and demonstrates new methods of sustainable textile production.

Seminars, lectures and special presentations – at all our textile events we offer a wide range of seminars and lectures on various aspects of sustainable textiles. We showcase new ideas and contemporary concepts of the sustainable textile market in special presentations and forums.

Awards – at various competitions at our fairs we celebrate the best green ideas, for instance with the Upcycling Award at Heimtextil.

Publications – every 3 months we issue our free "Sustainability & Textiles" newsletter, which reports on contemporary issues in the textile industry. The "Green Directory" lists sustainably produced products and certified manufacturers at Heimtextil. In addition there is a green guide for Texworld the "Eco-textile friendly itinerary".

Partnerships – we support MCL Global in the publication of the "Ecotextile Labeling Guide", which provides information on the most important environmental and social standards and certificates in the textile industry. Further partners include the Get Changed portal for fair fashion, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), ESMOD Berlin and the IVN (International Association of the Natural Textile Business).
